  • How long will it take to replace my roof?

In our experience as one of the top roofing companies in the area, project length depends on several variables, including weather, size/height of roof, and debris removal options. The average roof project takes approximately one to two days to complete.

For a better idea of how long your project will take, call us at Melvin Mills Roofing LLC for a free estimate. Once we've looked at your roof project and have a written estimate, we can also provide you with an estimated timeline for the project.

  • How long will my roof last?

The majority of roofs today carry manufacturer warranties of 30+ years. Most architectural shingles carry 50-year or limited lifetime guarantees. Most metal roofs carry 40-year or greater paint/product warranties. However, a roof's life expectancy actually has as much to do with proper roof installation as the quality of materials used. In our decades of experience as expert roofing contractors, it is our observation that most roofs need to be replaced far earlier than they should have had they been installed correctly. That's why we insist on using the highest-quality roofing materials and train our staff to install them according to the roofing manufacturer's precise specifications.

  • How many estimates do I need?

    One - ours! DONE.

In all honesty, if you know a roofing contractor well and trust their reputation, then receiving one estimate might be okay. However, receiving two to three estimates will give you a much better idea of an appropriate cost for your roofing job. Please remember that the bottom line price is not necessarily the only (or the most important) thing to consider when comparing roofing estimates. Other factors that are equally important are:

-Are the estimates apples-to-apples - same materials, same warranties, same installation, same scope of work?

-Is the roofing contractor fully insured (workman's compensation and general liability insurance)?

-Are the roofing installers appropriately trained?

-Does the roofing estimate detail all the steps of the project and specific items that will be used, including the roofing manufacturer?

A roofing contractor whose estimate initially appears cheaper may charge you more in the end for add-ons or upgrades that were already included in the original scope of work listed on another contractor's estimate. Ultimately, bottom line does matter, but should never come at the expense of dealing with a reputable contractor with a proven track record of standing behind their products and services. • How much will it cost to replace my roof?

In our experience as one of the leading roofing companies in the area, we can advise you that several factors go into the cost of a roofing project, including:

    -Size

    -Roof pitch (steepness)

    -Height

    -Accessibility

    -Number of roof faces

    -Type of roofing materials selected

-Condition of underlying roof structure (deck repairs needed)

-Number of layers of existing roofing materials

The simplest way to determine your roof project cost is to call us and let us give you a free assessment and estimate.

  • What are architectural shingles?

Architectural shingles are the most common style of roofing shingle currently installed. They are also called dimensional shingles because their multi-layered construction gives a thicker, sturdier appearance while allowing for a greater range of color variability. This contrasts with an older style of roofing shingles with which you may be familiar, known as three-tab shingles. They have a flat profile and less variation in color. • What color roof should I choose?

We understand that this can be a big hurdle in picking your roofing shingles. The roof color you pick should complement the existing color scheme of your home, and we like to assist our customers in picking a great roof color for them. First, we'll ask you what family of colors you're interested in. Then we will provide you with sample boards of various colors within that family to look at. If you're still having trouble narrowing it down, we can then direct you to homes in your area that have the shingle colors you are interested in so you can see them applied. • What is a Roof Maintenance Program?

A Roof Maintenance Program is a process in which we come to your home, business, or church and inspect your roof. We use a rigorous checklist to look for any roof problems that may be occurring. We then provide you with a copy of the full roof inspection report, photographs of any roof problems we found, and a written list of any suggested roof repairs not already covered in your Roof Maintenance Program. We will also provide an estimate for the suggested roof repairs for you to review. This enables you, the owner, to make informed decisions about any next steps you may need to take.

According to This Old House, over the past three years, nearly 31% of homeowners have sought out roof renovation, repair, or maintenance projects. Whether you need maintenance for your roof or seamless gutters, we've got you covered!

  • Which is better? A shingle roof or a metal roof?

We get this question a lot, as many roofing contractors seem to tout metal roofs as a one-time, permanent fix for your roof. But it's important to note that there are different types of metal roofs, and they do not all provide the permanent solution most people are looking for in metal. The majority of metal roofs we see on homes are exposed-fastener roofs. In other words, the screws are visible, and the metal is the same style that would be used on a shop building or barn. We do NOT recommend this type of metal for any structure with a finished interior.

Instead, we recommend concealed-fastener (or standing seam) metal. When comparing this option to a shingle roof, both will give long-lasting, low-maintenance satisfaction to the homeowner. So the real question is: Which do you like better on your home or business? The other factor to consider is cost. A standard standing seam metal roof will be approximately twice the cost of a standard architectural shingle roof.
